No. 3 Gators, No. 4 Trojans Clash on Sunday in Top-5 Matchup
Saturday, February 6, 2016 | Women's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 3 University of Florida women's tennis team begins a three-match home stand on Sunday against the No. 4 USC Trojans at 11 a.m. UF and USC have not met since the 2014 National Team Indoor Championships, where it was another highly-ranked matchup.
The Gators are coming off a strong showing at in-state rival FSU on Thursday night. UF showed a lot of resilience in doubles action to come back in all three matches to take the doubles point, which included a victory for Anna Danilina and Brianna Morgan erasing a 4-0 deficit to win 6-4. The Orange and Blue would then take the first five singles matches with Morgan clinching the match for the Gators at the No. 4 line.
UF and USC meet for the first time as Top-5 opponents since Feb. 18, 1988, when the Trojans defeated the Gators at Ring Tennis Complex, 5-1.
Last Time with the Trojans
The Gators and Trojans last met on Feb. 9, 2014 at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va. The then-No.2 ranked Florida grabbed an impressive win over then-No. 6 ranked USC, 4-1. Two current players, Keegan and Morgan, each earned singles victories for the Gators during the 2014 match.
Series History Against USC
Florida leads the all-time series against Southern California, 13-7 with UF claiming seven out of the last eight contests.
UF vs. Top-5 Opponents
