Gator W-Tennis Wins Three Titles at Fall Classic

The University of Florida women's tennis team swept the Flight A titles at its own Gator Fall Classic Sunday afternoon, completing the three-day tournament held at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
Senior Julia Scaringe (Marietta, GA) defeated freshman teammate Jennifer Magley (Bradenton, FL) 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 to win the Flight A Singles, before the Gator duo paired to capture the Flight A Doubles crown.
It was the first-ever collegiate singles title for Scaringe, who was making her fourth appearance in a final. Ironically, three of those championship bouts have come against her Gator teammates, including today's match.
Sunday's hard-fought, two and one-half hour singles battle from the baseline featured several service breaks in the opening two sets, as the UF rookie raced out to two early breaks to take a 4-1 lead. Scaringe broke back in the sixth game, but couldn't earn another, as Magley broke again in the ninth game to take the first set 6-3.
After a handful of breaks, Magley evened the second set at 4-all after breaking Scaringe. But this time the Gator veteran broke back and then held serve to force a deciding third set, where she controlled the match to win her first-ever collegiate singles title.
Magley and Scaringe then regrouped and paired in the Flight A Doubles draw, where they defeated FAU's Maria Aguirre-Gomez and Tania Rivera 8-2 in the semifinal. The Gator tandem then turned their sights on the championship match, where they topped UCF's Marieke Gunawan and Julie Pecastaing 8-2 to complete the Flight A sweep for Florida.
Magley and Scaringe weren't the only Gators who collected hardware during the three-day event. UF freshman Natalie Mikolich (Boca Raton, FL) paired with Miami's Sara Robbins to claim the Flight B Doubles title after a 8-6 win over the Hurricane duo of Sihem Bennacer and Ewleina Skaza in the final.
