BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Gator standout Brandon Spikes has been selected to the 2024 SEC Legends class, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) announced on Wednesday.
The 2025 Football Legends class includes 16 former stars who excelled on the gridiron and helped write the rich history of the sport at their respective institutions. This year's class includes a Heisman Trophy winner, national champions, All-Americans, All-SEC selections, Academic All-Americans and NFL standouts. The group represents teams that won SEC Championships, claimed Super Bowl titles and are represented in state, school and college football halls of fame.
A dynamic linebacker and leader for the Gators from 2006-09, Spikes was a two-time National Champion and became one of the most feared and respected defensive players in college football.
A three-time First-Team All-American and All-SEC selection, Spikes appeared in 47 games with 39 starts, totaling 307 tackles, including 178 solo, with 31.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. He had six interceptions, returning four for a touchdown, a Florida program record. He also forced two fumbles and recovered four. His leadership anchored one of the most celebrated defenses in SEC history, earning him finalist honors for the Butkus, Bednarik, and Bronko Nagurski Awards.
Selected by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Spikes went on to play six seasons in the NFL with the Patriots and Buffalo Bills. Over 78 career games, he recorded 349 tackles (231 solo), six forced fumbles, two interceptions, and 20 tackles for loss, earning a reputation as one of the league's toughest and most instinctive inside linebackers.
After retiring from professional football, Spikes returned to Florida to complete his undergraduate degree. He is currently pursuing his MBA at UF's Warrington College of Business, continuing his growth as a leader both on and off the field.
Today, Spikes serves as Director of Player Development for Florida's GatorMade program, where he mentors the next generation of SEC All-Americans. Through his work, he helps student-athletes develop leadership, purpose, and professional readiness—empowering them to succeed long after the final whistle.
The class will be honored at the 2025 SEC Football "Weekend of Champions" Dec. 5-6 in Atlanta, Ga, highlighted by the annual SEC Legends Celebration presented by T-Mobile on Friday, Dec. 5 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. The group will also be recognized prior to the SEC Football Championship Game, which will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 6.
