
Senior Maranda Smith featured on Wednesday's GatorZone show on Sun Sports

University of Florida gymnast Maranda Smith (Placerville, Calif.) will be featured on this Wednesday's edition of the GatorZone television show. GatorZone airs Wednesday, Feb. 16 on Sun Sports (Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable channel 48 or 748) at 5:30 p.m. The show replays on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 12:30 p.m.
The show will feature a profile of Smith, who is currently in her senior season at UF – make that her second senior season. In the summer of 2010, Smith was granted a sixth year of eligibility, making her the first in Gator gymnastics' 39-year history to receive a sixth year. She graduated in May of 2010 with her bachelor's degree in anthropology and a minor in communications studies. Smith is now enrolled in UF's master's program in health education and behavior. The four-time All-American calls herself the team 'mom' as she is one of only two seniors on the squad. She has appeared in every meet this season and has claimed at least a share of the last two vault titles.
The No. 1 Gators return home to play host to No. 22 Auburn on Feb. 18 for Senior Night presented by Verizon. Florida's pair of All-American seniors – Smith and Alicia Goodwin - will be honored at the event. Meet time is set for 7 p.m. in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The first 500 fans through the door receive a free cinch bag courtesy of Gatorade. Complimentary passes for the home finale can be picked up at any Verizon store in Gainesville or Ocala. Due to the large amount of events in and around the O'Connell Center on Feb. 18 (SEC Swimming & Diving Championships and home opener for Gator baseball), fans are encouraged to utilize the parking shuttle. Park in the commuter lot on Gale Lemerand Drive where the shuttle will pick up patrons and drop them off at the corner of Gale Lemerand Drive and Stadium Road near the O'Connell Center's Gate 2. The shuttle begins at 5 p.m. Friday and runs until 30 minutes after the evening's final event. A map of the shuttle service can be found here.
