Depree Bowden Named SEC WBB Player of the Week

University of Florida senior Depree Bowden (Palmetto, Fla.) was named the Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Gators to their third consecutive win, the league announced on Sunday. It is Bowden's first league honor of her career.
The 5-foot-11 guard tied her season-high of 23 points in leading Florida to its 83-77 victory over Saint Louis on Saturday, helping the Gators win three straight for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
Against Saint Louis, Bowden also contributed seven rebounds, a career-high-tying six assists and four steals, while hitting 4-of-7 from the 3-point arc and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. It was her third 20-point game of the season and the seventh of her career.
Florida worked the closing seconds of the first half against the Billikens to perfection, as Bowden capped period by hitting a three-pointer at the buzzer that gave the Gators the momentum entering the locker room in addition to a 13-point lead.
In Florida's last two games, Bowden is averaging 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals while hitting 9-of-18 from the 3-point arc and 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Bowden currently leads Florida in scoring (14.9 ppg), assists (33), steals (27) and three-point field goals (23), where she is connecting on 37.7 percent (23-61) from behind the arc.
The Gators (7-4) have a few days off for the holiday, before returning to action on Friday, December 28, when they play host to the 17th Annual State Farm Classic. Alabama A&M plays UNC Asheville in the opening game at 4:30 p.m., before Florida meets Holy Cross in the O'Connell Center. Saturday's game times are the same as Friday's, with Florida playing the 7 p.m. both days.
