Florida Relays Gets Underway with Multi-Events

The 61st annual Coca-Cola Florida Relays got underway Wednesday with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. Christina Regan is Florida's only competitor in either event.
Regan sits in seventh place with 2,840 points after four of seven events in the heptathlon. Regan began the competition in seventh place after the 100m hurdles, which she completed in 15.56. After the high jump, she moved into second place, clearing 1.67m/5-5.75. In the shot put, Regan threw 10.49m/34-5.00 and fell into sixth place. In the final event of the day, Regan finished 10th in the 200m dash in 27.25 to move into seventh place overall.
Andrea Pressley of Jacksonville leads the competition with 3,200 points, with Georgia's Sarak Gretzmacher right behind with 3,034.
Steve Esler of the University of Buffalo leads the decathlon after the first five events with 3,736 points. His teammate, Carlos Williams, is in second place with 3,642.
The multi-events will conclude Thursday. Also featured on Thursday are the men's and women's hammer throw and the distance carnival. A full schedule of events is available on www.gatorzone.com/trackfield/floridarelays. The meet continues through Saturday.
