Third-ranked Florida won its 27th consecutive match with Saturday's 7-0 shutout over Wake Forest at the Leighton Tennis Stadium. The victory was the Gator's eighth sweep of the season and improved the team's overall record to 10-0 this year.
The Gators continue their four-match road swing on Monday, when the team travels to Chapel Hill to face fifth-ranked North Carolina.
"I was pleased with the intensity we showed at the beginning of singles play," UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said. "Wake Forest fought hard, but we responded well. With this being our first road match of the season, I thought we did a good job of adjusting to the different surface. We have a big challenge next against North Carolina and we'll be ready for it."
Florida won all six singles match in straight sets and won the three doubles matches in convincing fashion. Alexis Gordon, Jennifer Magley, Zerene Reyes, Boglarka Berecz, Lindsay Dawaf and Nina Suvak logged singles victories, while the Gator's usual pairings that includes Julie Rotondi with Gordon at the No. 1 spot, on the doubles courts continued their strong play.
The Gators again proved tough in individual tight situations, winning two more singles matches today and improving to 14-2 this season in close sets that are decided when an opponent has won at least five games in a specific set.
