Swimmers Wrap Up Strong At U.S. Nationals

Two University of Florida swimmers and two relay teams placed in the top six of their respective events in the final day of competition Saturday at the 2003 U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Ind.
The highest finish on the night came from the men's 400-meter medley relay team that placed fourth. The team of Brian Hartley (Indianapolis, Ind.), Corey Welch (Larksville, Pa.), Justin Zumsteg (Rochester, Mich.) and Adam Sioui (Ontario, Canada) finished in a time of 3:52.67.
Both individual swimmers, Sara McLarty (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and Scott Kaufmann (Sparks, Nev.) finished sixth in their events. McLarty finished sixth in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:18.46, while Kaufmann finished in a time of 15:38.81 in the 1500-meter freestyle.
The women's 400-meter medley relay also finished sixth, as the team of Jamie Reid (Orlando, Fla.), Amanda Huff (Gold Hill, NC), Renate duPlessis (Capetown, South Africa) and Chantal Gibney (Dublin, Ireland) completed the event in a time of 4:17.85.
Freshman Michael Berger (Frankfurt, Germany) was the other Gator swimmer to compete in the finals, as he finished 40th in the 1500-meter free in a time of 16:28.59.
