Women?s Track In Early Lead at SEC Quad, Men 2nd

The University of Florida men's and women's track teams are in Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend for the 2002 SEC Outdoor Quad meet. The meet is being held in conjunction with the 30th annual Gatorade Classic. After three events, the Gator women's team has 36 points and a five-point lead on South Carolina. The men's team is in second to the host Volunteers with 21 points. South Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee are in both competitions. Vanderbilt's women's team is also competing.
Candice Scott and Jocelyn Schineller finished one-two in the hammer throw for the women. Scott's winning throw was 189-6. Schineller had a personal best of 173-9 for second. The Gators also had places four and five. Erin Gilreath was fourth at 170-7 and LaQuanda Cotton was fifth at 169-10. Gilreath also finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 81-3.
Yolanda Thompson won the women's long jump with a mark of 19-10.75. Keyon Soley was second at 19-9.25.
For the men, Erik Newby was fourth in the long jump at 23-1.75. Sophomore pole vaulter Jeff Amann was ninth in the event with a mark of 17-7. In the men's hammer throw, Ryan McIntyre had a personal best of 180-2 to finish second. Antonio Emperator was fifth overall with a distance of 169-8.
The competition continues tomorrow with the remaining events of the meet. First event of the day will begin at 2 p.m.
