WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY HARRIER WINS PENN STATE MEET

The University of Florida 's Erin Merten won the 17th Annual Penn State Open at University Park, Pa. today. Merten ran a school record 21:24.83 in the 6K race to lead the Gators. Freshman Carling Cookerly added another top ten finish, finishing tenth with a time of 22:21.11
The Gators finished fourth in the team standings with 89 points. After Merten and Cookerly, the rest of the team crossed the finish line in a group beginning with Jessica Newton in 27th with a new career-best 6K performance of 23:05.14. Her performance was the tenth best 6K time ever recorded by a Gator athlete. Kelly Walker, Mallory Dunn, and Kay Lennon all finished right behind Newton in 28, 29 and 31.
The Florida men's team had a rough day at the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Greenville, S.C. The team finished 29th of 36 teams. Senior Chris Duncan was the top Gator finisher in 121st place with a time of 26:03 in the 5K race. Colorado was the top team with a score of 62. The individual winner was Boaz Chedoiywo with a time of 23:31.
