No. 9 Hartford Defeats Gator Soccer Team 3-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 9 University of Hartford soccer team defeated Florida 3-0 Friday in the opening match of the Coca-Cola Classic hosted by the University of Virginia. The loss drops the Gators' season record to 3-6, while Hartford advances to 6-1 for the season.
Although the Gators outshot the Hawks 19-10 for the match, Florida had no luck Friday finding the back of the net. The Hawks scored twice in the opening half. The first goal came early in the match when Jeanette Akerlund intercepted a Gator clear attempt and crossed the ball to Susie Woodson for 10-yard shot at 5:42. Hartford's second goal at 36:20 started with a midfield breakaway by Katharina Linder. She crossed the ball to Akerlund, who passed to Annika Michaels for a short shot just inside far post.
Hartford's final goal came at 68:59 when Linder hit a 14-yard shot off the cross from Akerlund. It was the third assist of the match for Akerlund. The shutout was the fifth consecutive for Hartford – an UH record.
For the match, UF goalkeeper Jordan Kellgren turned in four saves, while UH's Anne Lise Nilssen posted a collegiate-high eight saves.
Florida continues its stay in Charlottesville on Sunday when it meets No. 13 Virginia. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Klöckner Stadium. Sunday's match will air live on the Sunshine Network.
