Biography

 
Announced he would not return for his sixth year of eligibility in 2018 and end his unique college career… Finished his career at Florida with an overall record of 6-1 (.857) as a starter… Statistically, Del Rio completed 57.5 percent of his passes for 1,496 yards at UF, with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions… 2017: Played in just two games and made one start (Vanderbilt)… Suffered a season-ending injury during UF’s win over the Commodores… Threw for 138 yards with one touchdown and one interception as he was 16-for-25 passing for a 115.57 pass efficiency rating... After losing the starting quarterback job in fall camp to Feleipe Franks, Del Rio saw his first game action of the season in relief of the redshirt freshman at Kentucky… Del Rio provided a spark for Florida’s offense, leading the Gators on two scoring drives in the fourth quarter to overcome a 13-point deficit… Went 9-for-14 through the air for 74 yards and the game-winning touchdown in Lexington… 2016: Threw for 1,358 yards with eight passing touchdowns and eight interceptions as he was 114-for-201 passing for a 118.64 pass efficiency rating... After winning the starting quarterback job in fall camp, Del Rio played and started in only six games due to a myriad of injuries… Sustained his first injury in UF’s game against UNT, which caused him to miss two games…. Returned against Mizzou and started three-consecutive contests before suffering a season-ending injury at Arkansas… Became the second transfer quarterback to start a game in program history (vs. UMass), the first was Noah Brindise in 1997… In that start against UMass, Del Rio went 29-for-44 with 256 yards and a pair of touchdowns… He joined Rex Grossman (2002) and Chris Leak (2005) as the only Gator quarterbacks since 1996 to complete 65 percent of his passes (min. 25 completions and 40 att.), throw two touchdowns and zero interceptions... His 256 passing yards were the fifth most by a UF quarterback in his debut start since 1990... The following week against Kentucky, Del Rio was named the Manning Star of the Week as he completed 19-of-32 passes for 320 yards and four touchdowns… He became the first UF quarterback since Rex Grossman against LSU in 2001 to hit 300 yards and four TDs passing against a league opponent… In addition, he became the first UF quarterback since Tim Tebow (2007) to throw for 250-plus yards and complete 55 percent of his passes in consecutive games… As a team against the Wildcats, Del Rio engineered an offense that converted 14 of its 20 third downs, becoming the only SEC team since 1996 to convert at least 70 percent of its third downs when it faced at least 20 of them in a game… Del Rio engineered an offense that totaled over 500 total yards of offense twice (Mizzou, Kentucky), which marked the first time the Gators recorded 500 total yards in two games in a season since 2014 and the first time since 2008 it did it against SEC opponents… Was one of 16 quarterbacks overall, and one of two quarterbacks in the SEC to throw for 320-plus yards and four touchdowns against a Power Five opponent this year… Named to SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll… 2015: Sat out due to transfer rules.
 
PRIOR TO FLORIDA:
2014 (Oregon State):
Enrolled at Oregon State for spring term (March) in time to participate in spring ball… Granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA on April 11 after transferring from Alabama – eligible because he was considered a non-recruited athlete at Alabama… Arrived with four years to compete four seasons… Spent the spring practice session in a three-way duel to be the No. 2 quarterback… Played well during the spring… Earned the second string job early in the season… Played in three games… Completed a season-long 52-yard pass to Hunter Jarmon at Stanford.
 
2013 (Alabama):
Enrolled at Alabama in January of 2013… Redshirt… Walked on to the Crimson Tide football program… Was officially listed as the No. 3 quarterback on the Crimson Tide depth chart throughout 2013 and was considered the emergency quarterback.
 
High School:
Rated the No. 2 player in the state of Colorado and the No. 27 pocket passer nationally by ESPN… Rivals listed him as the nation’s No. 28 pro-style quarterback and the No. 3 player in the state… Ranked as the 33rd-best pro-style quarterback in the 247Composite and No. 4 in Colorado… The No. 36 quarterback by 247Sports.com … Scout ranked him as the No. 47 signal-caller nationally… Participated in the Elite 11 camp in the summer of 2012, finishing as the No. 5 QB in the final rankings… Played at Valor Christian High, leading the Eagles to the Colorado 5A State Championship… Passed for 2,275 yards at Valor Christin with 28 touchdowns and only four interceptions… Named a first team all-state selection by the Denver Post… Also named the quarterback for the Denver Post All-Colorado team… Threw for 2,580 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior in 2011 at Episcopal High School in Jacksonville, Fla… Father, Jack, is a former NFL linebacker and the current head coach for the Oakland Raiders.
