Bulldogs Even Series with No. 4 Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida softball team dropped its second game of the series, 1-0, to Mississippi State Sunday afternoon at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
The Gators (22-2, 1-1 SEC) and the Bulldogs (16-9, 1-1 SEC) each tallied five hits in the contest, but the MSU was able to scratch across one deciding run in the top of the 2nd inning via an RBI single through the left side by Jackie McKenna that scored Paige Cook from third.
Natalie Lugo (5-1) dueled with Bulldogs pitcher Annie Willis (2-2) for 5.0 innings before Marissa Mesiemore entered the game in the 5th inning to close out the remaining two frames. Lugo held Mississippi State's offense to zero extra base hits on the day, while Mesiemore didn't allow a Bulldog batter to reach base.
Offensively, Cheyenne Lindsey paced the Gators at the plate going 2-for-2 with her fifth triple of the season. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native's extra base hit set a new single-season record for triples by a senior in program history. Charla Echols (1-for-2), Katie Kistler (1-for-2) and Emily Wilkie (1-for-1) also tallied hits in the contest.
