COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Gators women's golf team is atop the leaderboard following the second round of the NCAA Columbus Regional Championship. Florida posted a five-over, 293, on Tuesday to move to 14-over (590) for the tournament.
UF finished the day with a one-stroke lead over the 18-team field.
Kelly Grassel led the Gators, carding three birdies on the back nine to finish the day in a tie for fourth at two-over (146).
The senior goes into the final round three-strokes off the lead.
Meanwhile, Marta Perez, Taylor Tomlinson and Karolina Vlckova all sit in the top-25, as they are tied for 12th (four-over, 148), tied for 18th (six-over, 150) and tied for 22nd (seven-over, 151), respectively.
Vlckova's one-under (71) was one of only nine under-par round scores carded during the second round.
The top six teams and three individuals from each regional site will advance to the NCAA Championship May 19-24 in Sugar Grove, Ill. at Rich Harvest Farms.
Florida enters Wednesday's final round looking to win an NCAA Regional title for the third time in program history and advance to the NCAA Championship.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
On the Gators' second round…
"Glad to see we improved, we had a stellar front nine. We had a few hiccups on the back nine, more mental mistakes than anything. A big goal for tomorrow is to stay in it mentally the whole round. The rounds have been long and this course can beat you. But we have done a good job overall of limiting mistakes and managing our way around the course."
On tomorrow's final round…
"Tomorrow will be an exciting day for us. We have a chance to win our region and we want to make the most of the opportunity. I know the team is excited and up for the challenge."
