GAINESVILLE, Florida – 2016 NCAA qualifier Rachel Slocum will enroll at the University of Florida for the fall 2016 semester, Florida Head Coach Jenny Rowland announced today. Slocum competed at Eastern Michigan for her first two seasons and will join the Gator program as a junior. She will be eligible to compete for the Gators for the upcoming 2017 season.
Slocum advanced to the 2016 NCAA Championships after sharing the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional floor exercise title with a collegiate-best 9.90. She earned 2016 Mid-American Conference All-Tournament honors after sharing second on vault (9.85) and tying for third (9.90) in floor exercise competition at the league championships. She also earned All-MAC first team honors after leading the league's competitors in the final regular season national vault rankings. The 2016 MAC Specialist of the Year, Slocum owns collegiate-best marks of 9.925 (vault) and 9.90 (floor).
"We think Rachel will fit right in among the Gators. She's a strong vaulter and will also contribute on floor," Rowland said. "Rachel is also a focused student-athlete and is looking forward to pursuing her nursing degree at Florida. We welcome Rachel to the Gator family."
