Gator Great Elizabeth Beisel was one of the originators of the Team USA video.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 2012 United States Olympic Swimming Team was a hit in the pool during the 2012 London Games, but did you know they were a sensation even before the Games began?
Gator Great Elizabeth Beisel and a few of her teammates wanted to create their own video version of Carly Rae Jepson's summer smash song, "Call Me Maybe."
"We're a big deal. We could probably do something really cool with this," Beisel shared of the initial idea.
During Team USA's training camp, more and more members of the squad heard about their idea and wanted to participate.
They never dreamt what a sensation their lip-synch video it would become or the effect it had on the entire team.
"We uploaded it to YouTube and thought we'd get a couple hundred, maybe a thousand hits. We woke up the next morning with two million hits," said Beisel, a three-time Olympian who will be competing in Rio.
