Key Members of Foley's Staff Will Not Pursue Gators AD Job

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gators Athletic Director Jeremy Foley has developed a close-knit team of administrators around him during his 25 years as head of the University Athletic Association.
Three of those colleagues – Mike Hill, executive associate AD for external affairs, Lynda Tealer, executive associate AD for administration, and Chip Howard, executive associate AD for internal affairs – have been mentioned in media reports as Foley's potential successor.
However, they do not plan to pursue Foley's job. Foley announced his retirement earlier this month, effective Oct. 1.
"We've gotten a number of questions asking about internal interest in the job,'' said Steve McClain, senior associate AD for communications. "Each of the internal people have made a decision not to pursue the athletic director position for their own individual reasons."
Hill has worked at the UAA since 1993, Howard since 1989, and Tealer joined the UAA in August 2003.
UF President Dr. Kent Fuchs launched the search last week to find a replacement for Foley, who began his career at the UAA as a ticket office intern in 1976 and climbed to the head of the organization.
