NEW YORK -- Florida first-year Gator
Lindsey Ronbeck reeled in double the honors Tuesday as the
Inside Lacrosse National Rookie of the Week and the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week following a standout week of play against Marquette and Villanova.
Ronbeck and the Gators defeated the Golden Eagles 15-5 and Wildcats 14-4 in the last week of play to improve to 14-1 on the season and an undefeated 5-0 in conference play. The Gators sit tied atop the BIG EAST standings alongside UConn with just two more regular-season games remaining -- at Cincinnati Wednesday, and against the Huskies Sunday for Senior Day in Gainesville.
Florida clinched a spot in the four-team BIG EAST Tournament, hosted May 5-7 in Washington, DC, with Saturday's victory at Villanova.
Ronbeck scored a team-high eight goals and 10 points for the Orange and Blue through the last week of play, including a career best five-goal, seven-point outing against Marquette. The Manhasset, N.Y., native then turned around and put up a hat trick against Villanova in Philly last weekend.
One of the top freshmen in the country, Ronbeck ranks third for the Gators with 24 goals on the season and fourth with 35 points.
Tuesday's honor marks Ronbeck's fourth overall BIG EAST honor – three Freshman of the Week accolades, one conference honor roll mention – and the first national weekly honor of her career.
