Florida Women’s Golf Tied for Lead at SEC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 8 Florida women's golf team was the lone team to post an under-par score on Saturday in Round 2 of the SEC Championship. The Orange and Blue used an impressive back nine to score -2 (286) and move into a tie for first place with Alabama at +2 (578), while third place Texas A&M is 12 shots back (590).
In the individual competition, junior Maria Torres led the Orange and Blue for the second straight day and is in sole possession of first place. Torres used five birdies on the day to match her season-best score of -4 (68) and stretch her lead to six strokes over the 70-player field.
Freshman Sam Wagner added an under-par score of her own to boost the Gators' team score. Wagner carded a -1 (71) and enters the final round on Sunday tied for 14th. Junior Kelly Grassel is tied for sixth after scoring +3 (75) in Round 2 at the par-72, 6,195-yard Greystone Golf and Country Club. Sophomore Taylor Tomlinson shot even to move up the leaderboard and into a tie for 20th.
