Florida Women Qualify 9 Swimmers to the NCAA Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Florida women's swimming and diving team will compete in the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships beginning Wednesday, March 16 and ending Saturday, March 19, in Atlanta. Competition will be held inside the McAuley Aquatic Center.
Nine Gators qualified in 14 induividual events and four relay races come competition in two weeks, eight of which swimmers are returners from last year's meet.
Florida divers Kahlia Warner, Delaney Dye, Emily Mosher, Abigail Howell, and Teya Syskakis will have the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA meet next week in Atanta, from Mar. 7-9, at the NCAA Zone B Diving regional meet.
Last year at the NCAA Championships, Florida finished ninth overall after scoring 129 points. UF finished in the top 10 for the 15th consecutive year. Overall, the Gators amassed 15 All-American swims and gathered five honorable mention accolades.
Of the schools this season, Florida ranks tied for ninth with the most swimmers who qualified. The Gators are looking for their fourth NCAA Championship, most recently winning the women's title in 2010 under current Coach Troy.

Florida Relays:
In addition to Florida's 14 individual events, the Gators will participate in four relay events -- 800 Free Relay, 200 Free Relay, 400 Medley Relay, and 400 Free Relay.
Being an All-American:
In NCAA swimming and diving, athletes and relay teams who make the championship final (top eight) are considered First-Team All-Americans. Athletes and relay teams that qualify for the consolation final (determines places 9-16) are considered Honorable Mention All-Americans.
All-American teams are selected by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
Looking Back:
Two weeks ago, Florida's men won the program's fourth-straight and 37th overall Southeastern Conference Championship. On the women's side, the Gators ended their conference championship in sixth place.
Overall, Florida won 11 SEC championships, broke eight school records and registered 11 NCAA 'A' Cuts. UF's 37 SEC team championships ranks second amongst all sports in the history of the SEC (Kentucky Men's Basketball, 45).
