Kahlia Warner will compete in tonight's 3-Meter Finals
ATLANTA -- The University of Florida women's swimming and diving team took the pool for Day Three competition at the 2016 NCAA Championships this afternoon inside the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta. Eight Gators competed across four of Friday's preliminary events while senior Kahlia Warner highlighted the morning with a first-place showing on the 3-Meter springboard.
Warner, who finished sixth off the 1-Meter in last night's finals competition, dove a score of 381.20 on six dives which solidifies an All-American honor for the second night in a row. The Queensland, Australia, native will compete in tonight's finals session at 6 p.m. ET.
Senior Natalie Hinds had a strong showing in the 100-Yard Butterfly, clocking a time of 52.41 which nearly qualified her for tonight's finals. Hinds finished 17th among the field of 55.
Also competing in the 100-Yard Butterfly was junior Alyssa Yambor-Maul. After qualifying in the event a season ago (45th, 53.43), the Tallahassee, Florida, native climbed the rankings for a 39th-place finish after touching the wall in a season-best time of 53.44.
In the 400-Yard IM, senior Jessica Thielmann swam a time of 4:09.09 to finish 21st among the field of 49. Freshman Hannah Burns (4:14.45) and Georgia-Mae Hohmann (4:14.87) followed behind in 36th and 45th place. Hohmann's time of 4:14.87 cleared her season-best by over four seconds (4:18.94).
Senior Ashlee Linn and sophomore Amelia Maughan swam the final two races in today's preliminary session -- each taking part in the 200-Yard Freestyle. Linn's time of 1:46.69 was good for a 39th-place finish while Maughan came in at 46th, posting a time of 1:47.13.
Florida Head Coach Gregg Troy on the Afternoon:
"I'm really proud of the effort I saw from our swimmers today. We're seeing some good things and we've continued to improve each day while setting some new season-best times for our girls.
"We would have liked to put more girls into tonight's finals but that's the difficult part about swimming at the NCAA Championships -- we're seeing a lot of records fall and this is an extremely talented field to go up against. We'll get some rest, regroup, and we'll be back and ready to go for tomorrow."
