Lee Humphrey Named to 2016 SEC Legends Class
Friday, February 19, 2016 | Men's Basketball
The sharp-shooting Humphrey is the all-time leader in NCAA Tournament 3-pointers.
Almost 10 years later, the numbers are still staggering.
His 47 career 3-pointers in the NCAA Tournament are more than anyone else. Ever.
And 18 of those came in the Final Four, only the sport's biggest stage.
By virtue of those memorable postseason performances alone, Lee Humprey has always been a lock for Southeastern Conference Legend status. The SEC made it official on Friday, announcing Humphrey as part of the 2016 class to be honored at the SEC Tournament in Nashville three weeks from now.
While the Maryville, Tenn., native's contributions to UF's two national championship runs will always be top of mind for Gator fans, his abilities as a sniper were hardly confined to the postseason.
Humphrey graduated Florida as the school's all-time leader in 3-pointers made (since overtaken by Kenny Boynton) and remains the best career long-range shooter by percentage in school history (.444; minimum 150 attempts). He is the only Gator with two seasons of 100+ 3-pointers, hitting an identical 113 as a junior and senior in each of the team's two championship seasons.
Beyond that, Humphrey also finished his Florida career as one of the most decorated Gator athletes in the classroom, earning Academic All-American and SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors twice.
Humphrey will be recognized at halftime of the Gators' first SEC Tournament game in Nashville this season.
