Bresnahan, Pirreca & Stevens Are BIG EAST Players of the Week

Florida picked up three of the four BIG EAST lacrosse weekly awards.
NEW YORK -- After the No. 8 Gators' 2-0 start to the 2016 lacrosse campaign, including a win over No. 13 Loyola to debut the new season, three Florida players in Taylor Bresnahan, Shayna Pirreca and Mollie Stevens were tabbed BIG EAST Athletes of the Week Tuesday by the conference office.

In the first installment of weekly awards this season, Bresnahan -- a 2015 IWLCA All-South Second Team honoree -- was named the Defensive Player of the Week after a career day against Michigan Saturday. The weekly honor is the first for Bresnahan, who has scored in both of Florida's games this season and ranks second among BIG EAST players in ground balls so far in 2016.

The honor also marks the first for Pirreca, who was tabbed the Attacker of the Week after a dominating offensive performance in a come-back victory against the Wolverines. Pirreca turned in a career high six points and tied career highs in goals (4), assists (2) and shots (5). She leads the BIG EAST in assists and points so far in 2016.

After a career best five-goal outing in the Gators' win over No. 13 Loyola, Stevens, a BIG EAST First Team and IWLCA All-South Second Team player last season, is the conference's Midfielder of the Week. Stevens has extended her school-record streak to 27 games with a goal, tied a career high with four draw controls against the Wolverines -- including two crucial controls in the final minutes of regulation. Stevens added three caused turnovers and leads the conference in goals (8) through the first two games.
