SEBRING, Fla. – University of Florida women's golfer Kelly Grassel had a strong finish Saturday at the Harder Hall Women's Invitational in Sebring, Fla., tying for second place among the 36-player Championship Flight.
The junior scored one-under 71 in the final round on Saturday to record even par (288) at the four-day event. Grassel matched her collegiate-best score of -3 (69) in the second round to step into contention at the Harder Hall Golf Club.
"I'm so happy for Kelly to post a nice finish at the Harder Hall," Head Coach Emily Glaser said. "She has worked as hard as anyone on our team and as a player, it's always a rewarding feeling to see that pay off."
It's been a successful offseason for the Gator women's golf team, as freshman Sam Wagner and junior Maria Torres placed third and tied for fifth, respectively, at the Dixie Amateur back in December. Senior Laura Kanouse and sophomore Taylor Tomlinson are also set to compete at the South Atlantic Women's Amateur Championship in Ormond Beach, Fla., on Jan. 11-16.
"The winter has been a continuation of our fall success," Glaser said. "To see different players on our team step up and contend each event is so exciting. I know the entire team is thrilled about the possibilities that lie ahead for us."
Up Next for the Gators: The Gators will open the 2016 spring season on Feb. 1, in Lecanto, Fla., at the Florida Challenge.
