Women's Golf Finishes 8th At Lady Gamecock Classic

The University of Florida women's golf team finished eighth of 11 teams at the Lady Gamecock Classic hosted by the University of South Carolina at the University Club (Par 72, 5,996 yards). The Lady Gators shot a 331 on Sunday for a tournament total score of 957 (+93). Duke University won the tournament with a three-day total of 887 (+23).
"It was a disaster today," Florida head coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. "We were in a position to finish, I thought, as high as fourth, but they didn't get the job done. We're going to have to go back and keep working until we get it right."
On the final day, freshman Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla./Countryside) had the best day for the Lady Gators, firing a 79 for a three-day total of 242 (+26), placing her 33rd overall. Sophomore Brittany Straza (Fort Myers, Fla./Lehigh) had the top overall tournament performance for the team with a total score of 228 (+12), tying her for 14th overall. Straza shot an eight-over-par 80 on Sunday. Sophomore Jeanne Cho (Boulogne, France/St. Stephen's Episcopal School) finished 23rd with a three-day total of 236 (+20) after shooting an 82 on Sunday. Redshirt freshman Joy Stephenson (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) finished 45th after firing a 90 on Sunday to bring her tournament total of 251 (+35). Junior Kim Best (Avon Park, Fla./Daytona Beach CC) came in 58th overall with an overall score of 267 (+51) after shooting 90 on the tournament's final day.
The Lady Gators will be back in action March 30-April 1 when they travel to Miami Lakes, Fla. for the Florida Women's Collegiate Golf Tournament.
